The GED, or General Education Development test, gives a person the chance to get a diploma equal to finishing high school. This is important because many employers and colleges require a GED or high school diploma.

In the GED test, students answer questions in subjects learned in high school. Studying for the test can take many months. The actual test could take a few hours or even all day!

In Cook County, Illinois, all information about the official GED test starts at the office of the Cook County GED Testing Program. Call them at 847-328-9795 for information.

Study For The GED. Take The GED.

Studying for the test and really taking the GED test are two different things. Many schools, such as the Chicago City Colleges, offer classes to study for the GED test. Please take these classes.

But the GED test is separate from the classes where people study for it. The classes may be free. But the test is separate and costs $50.

Taking the official GED test in Cook County, Illinois, for the first time, costs $50. This is a big clue that the test is official. Here's another clue: After paying $50, the official test is taken only in a classroom.

The Chicago City Colleges are a popular place to study for the GED. After the class is over, you will mail Cook County an application, request two test sites, and include a $50 money order.

Other places to get your GED will follow a different set of rules. Contact these if you can't apply through Cook County and the City Colleges:
- Wendy Jones, pretend@sbcglobal.net (cost $150)
